1. RE-USABLE SHOPPING BAGS

I have been using re-usable shopping bags for months now. I picked up these “Granny bags” in Ikea. I love them. They remind my of shopping bags from the 80’s. I also love tote bags.

2. LIQUID SOAP

So, the first thing I feel like we can definitely live without in our house is liquid soap. I got a few soap bars and soap dishes. There’s such a huge selection of soap bars now. I remember in the 80’s when we had only a few soap brands to choose from. Who remembers Imperial Leather, Lux, Cold tar soap, Lifebouy and Shield to name a few. Nowadays you get the most beautiful soaps. There is a huge selection. Making my own soap is also something I want to try.

I have to admit, I really wasn’t too optimistic about these. I love the feeling of freshly washed and blow dried hair. I gave these a try. I read that when you start using the bars the transition period can range from a few days to a few weeks or even a month. It really depends on how damaged your hair is, how much residue and build-up. Use the bar like a bar of soap. Lather the bar up and down on wet hair. I worked up a lather and washed my hair. I did the same with the conditioner. My hair felt really clean and fresh.

I did find my hair was a little oily/greasy the next day but I will persist with these. Like any shampoos and conditioners there are lots of different types and you have to find one that you like and works for you hair type.

4. PLASTIC RAZORS

I read that plastic razors are as bad as plastic straws with at least 2 billion disposable razors thrown into the landfill every year.

I decided to try a reusable razor. The Naked Shave razor includes a traditional unisex razor and a pack of 5 blades.

5. MAKE YOUR OWN HOME ACCESSORIES

You know I love making things for my home. My latest obsession is with the craft punch needle. I love to make accessories for my home. There is something about having an object in your home that you made with your own hands. I cannot explain it but I just love creating and making pieces.

So, I have cut back hugely on what I buy for my home. I started shopping in my own home. Moving future around to give a room anew look and adding handmade accessories.

I think if we all make small changes every little helps. In the future I also want get rid of the microwave, plastic wrap, tin foil, tampons, plastic bags, paper towels. These are all the small changes I plan on making in my home for 2020.
